Reports making the round claims Arsenal will make a move for Algerian international Riyad Mahrez this month as a possible replacement for Alexis Snchez who has been tipped to join Manchester City either this January or in Summer.
Sanchez is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to be sold to Manchester City for around £30million.
However, Arsenal would then need to bring in a replacement and Mahrez has been touted as a potential option.
However, Ex Arsenal star Ian Wright and former Chelsea star Dennis Wise believe Mahrez might not want to join a team that is languishing in sixth place in the Premier League table.
“I don’t think Mahrez would want to go there,” Wise told Sky Sports’ The Debate.
“I think there would be other teams that Mahrez would look at and think he is capable of going into.
“Teams that are in a better position than Arsenal.
“If Arsenal are the only team then yeah, but if there are teams above then you would wait and consider the teams in the top five at the moment.”
However, Wright believes that the sensational winger would fit in in Arsene Wenger’s plan perfectly.
But the prospect of Sanchez and Mesut Ozil walking away from the club could affect their ability to tempt the 26-year-old.
“Of course Arsenal are good enough for him but if he went there then he would have to pull up trees,” Wright added.
“What help has he got?
“He is looking at two unbelievable players that might walk out.”
