The transfer window is not even in the week of its opening and players lined up for transfers have already started sounding out transfer destinations ahead of time.
There is a new twist in the tail in Arsenal’s pursuit of Brasilian midfielder, Lucas Silva, as the player has made quite a bold statement that will cause ripples in Arsene Wenger’s veins.
Word on the street is that we have made the first contact with Cruzeiro for the 21-year old and the fact that Madrid have not been so keen on moving for him in the winter has even been a bigger boost to us. However, Silva seems to have his eyes fixed on a destination which is not the Emirates, even claiming to be ready if a move were to be ready.
“To have people say a club like Real Madrid want you is a great honour and achievement” Silva said, as quoted by the Express.
“I’m on holiday right now and I try not to think about it all too much. If something happens, then Cruzeiro and my agent would let me know.
“Of course it would be a dream to play for Real Madrid, I make no secret of that. It would be an honour for me to join that team, but in order for that to happen both clubs have to come to an agreement. All I can do is wait.
“If I were to go now, I’m ready for that. If I were to stay here at Cruzeiro until June and then go there, that would also be a good solution as I would be able to play in the Copa Libertadores with my club, which is a big challenge. I’m ready for every eventuality.”
The youngster’s shock revelation could cause a real resistance for any further move for him by Wenger as you wouldn’t want to sign a player who apparently already seems himself elsewhere. Our injury worries in midfield makes it necessary for us to haggle over one or two available ones in the January window and with the Brazilian league wrapped up, Silva is surely considered as available.
Lucas is highly rated for his strong composed abilities as a midfielder. In comparison to the past brasilians we’ve had in the middle of the park, he can be said to be made of more of Gilberto Silva than of Denilson. A technically gifted player, he has the capacity to sit as a holding midfielder, regardless of his age, as he has the frame to hold his own against advancing opponents. Such is his energy, that he can also make play from the center with an excellence in distributing the ball.
That said, it’s a shame he is already focused on the Bernabeu.
