Arsene Wenger is worried that the players confidence could suffer due to the fans negativity. Prior to the game against Manchester United, the manager urged the fans to stay together with the players as we enter into the closing stages of the season but after the unrest in the crowd during the 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea, Wenger fears the negativity surrounding the Emirates could cost the team the league title.
Arsenal who started 2016 top of the Premier League table are now seated 3rd on the log table, 8 points behind league leaders Leicester City due to a series of inconsistent performances this year.
But the players showed they are up to the fight after Saturday’s derby performance where we salvaged a 2-2 draw against Tottenham despite being a man less than our opponent.
Wenger claims he is worried that the angry fans reaction could hurt his players while praising qtheir performance on Saturday, saying they could handle the pressure despite the fans negative reaction.
“Look, I’m like everybody, I prefer that the fans are happy,” he said.
“But I’m more worried that it can get to the players’ confidence level, but I feel we have shown a great response as a team today that we can deal with that, we analyse that well. We gave the right response.
“We have to focus on what is our job and do it well. They’ve shown today that even if the confidence is not high, they can play well.”
Thierry Henry had claimed prior to the game against Tottenham that he had never seen Arsenal fans as angry as they were on Wednesday night and the response from the players on Saturday was the perfect one to show the fans they still have what it takes to win the title.
