“In The Summer I’ll Leave” “It’s Time For A New Adventure” Insists High Flying Arsenal Target.

It is very probable that a new striker would be top of Wenger’s list of targets in the summer and someone seems to be making himself available already, Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.

The 28-year old Porto man has dropped a huge hint that would see a host of Premier league clubs on his tail by July by admitting to a desire for a new challenge away from the Portuguese League.

“In the summer, I’ll leave Porto for a new team” Martinez has been quoted as saying to El Espectador, a Colombian newspaper.

“Players develop well in Portugal and I thank the club for making me the player I am today”

“However, it’s time for a new adventure, to grow from a professional point of view”

“Italy or England? Possibly, but I’m waiting for the summer. My agent deals with these things, and at the moment I don’t know what my future will be”

“For the moment I’m just thinking about finishing the year with Porto. There are several teams interested, and I can’t say definitely where I’ll play”

This is about as blunt as a goodbye could be and if the usual reliability of the source is anything to go by, the transfer of Jackson Martinez will be right up there with some of the stories to follow in the coming transfer window.

The big strong left-footed forward has been a talisman for Porto in his two years since moving from the Mexican first division. A staggering 62 goals in 80 appearances easily rank him as one of the most potent forwards around and while that may be played down due to the somewhat lower challenge available in the Portuguese league, that is not a statistic to be taken lightly given Radamel Falcao first came to prominence during his time there.

There is significant interest from Italy for Martinez with his agent, Henrique Pompeo, suggesting sometime in January that his client would embrace a move to either one of Juventus, Napoli or Roma.

Apparently an Arsenal fan, he is been regularly linked with a switch to the Emirates in the past few windows though he cannot affirm that it will definitely happen in the coming summer. Most fans may see him as a different version of Olivier Giroud but his goal scoring record kind of gives him an added feather of being more reliable in front of goal.
