Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck injured his groin in the goalless draw with Chelsea, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.
The England star who started the game was forced off after 73 minutes at Stamford Bridge. The Arsenal boss has revealed that the 26 year-old will have a scan on Monday or Tuesday, with the extent of the injury expected to be known later in the week.
Following the draw, Wenger said he didn’t know how long Welbeck could be sidelined for.
“He has a groin problem,” said the Frenchman, as reported by Sky Sports. “I don’t know how severe it is but it looks like a ‘good’ groin problem, not an easy one.”
The forward has started the season brightly, scoring three goals in five Premier League games.
Welbeck’s defensive contribution was invaluable for Arsenal on Sunday as the Gunners completed just their second shutout at Stamford Bridge in 19 games.
Arsenal are expected to be without the England international for their mid-week League Cup tie at home to Doncaster.
