Reports in Italy are claiming Wojciech Szczesny will return to Arsenal when his loan spell at Roma expires at the end of the season.
The Polish goalkeeper is on loan at Roma until the end of the season and reports are claiming he will not remain in Italy beyond the current campaign.
This is the goalie’s second spell at the Serie A club after he spent last season there on loan also. His return to Roma in the summer was not a surprise as it was obvious to everyone that both the club and the player wanted a reunion after a successful spell together last year.
Roma tried to buy him out permanently but Arsenal rejected, a loan move with an option to buy at the end of the season was then agreed by both clubs.
However, Corriere dello Sport are now claiming Szczesny will return to the Emirates at the end of the season as Roma will not attempt to sign him permanently.
The report also added that Szczesny will return to Arsenal to take a place in the starting xi and Cech will drop to the bench. Where that leaves current second choice David Ospina, I am not sure.
The report suggests Roma will never pay the mandated €16m fee which they would have to pay if they wanted to sign the goalie permanently and also the player wants to return to the Emirates where he thinks he has a role to play in the future
Szczesny is a graduate of our prestigious academy and has always been considered as a future No. 1. The arrival of Petr Cech increased competition for the goalkeeping spot and the Polish opted to leave on loan in order to continue his development.
He has definitely improved as a player in the last two years and will return to us a better player at the end of the season.
