AS Monaco defender Djibril Sidibe has revealed he snubbed a move to Arsenal in favor of signing for the principality club in the summer transfer window.
Sidibe, a versatile full back was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window as a replacement for Kieran Gibbs who was reportedly seeking a move away from North London.
However, a move for Sidibe didn’t materialize and Gibbs ended up staying at Arsenal but the French man has revealed that it was he who snubbed a move to the Emirates to sign a five year deal at Monaco.
The defender was speaking with French Publication Le10sport in an interview where he revealed Arsenal’s interest came late as he had already made up his mind to join Monaco before he was aware of our interest.
“I came from a big season with plenty of goals. I had been decisive on many occasions. After, there was this call-up for the France team. Somehow I expected offers. It came.
“It is true that this offer (Arsenal) came at the last moment. I had already made my choice for Monaco. But it’s very flattering. Today, Arsenal is one of the biggest teams in the world. As I said, today I am in Monaco. I’m happy and I know it has been interpreted in a certain way. But that’s part of the trade.”
Sidibe is undoubtedly a promising defender but Gooners won’t be disappointed that the club missed out on the French man considering our defense is doing well. We are looking very solid at the back this year compared to previous seasons and that’s what every fan cares about.
