Ivan Gazidis was so impressed by the way Juventus dumped Spurs out of the Champions League and the spirit the Italians showed to turn the tie around that he has pushed Massimiliano Allegri to the top of his managerial wishlist according to reports this morning.
Even though Arsene Wenger has no intention of leaving this summer, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang revealed that he only joined Arsenal because of the French man, the Daily Star are reporting that the double-header against Spurs has seen Gazidis shift his focus from Julian Nagelsmann to Allegri.
Mislintat, according to the exclusive by David Woods, is said to be championing Nagelsmann but the Star seem to believe that one game at Wembley was enough to change Gazidis’ mind, which all seems rather unlikely.
Allegri, for his part, has been learning English for the past year but he would be a lot harder for Arsenal to land than the 30-year-old Nagelsmann, who would represent something of a gamble for the club.
The Hoffenheim coach is under contract until 2021 after being appointed to the role just over two years ago. He has taken charge of 86 matches with an average of 1.56 points per game during his time at the helm.
Allegri, however, averages 2.29 points (across 206 games) and has won Serie A with both AC Milan and Juventus as well as three Coppa Italias and two Champions League final appearances.
The Daily Star do not have a good reputation when it comes to reliability however they have historically close ties with Arsenal through the Hill-Woods, notably, Peter Hill-Wood’s relationship with the now deceased Star Editor, Brian Woolnough.
