Sami Khedira could be Arsenal’s first signing in January.
Now, this IS huge.
Reports emerging from some Spanish best sellers give strong indications that Real Madrid midfielder, Sami Khedira, has finally agreed to a potential transfer to Arsenal in January.
Khedira, who starred in the World Cup for Joachim Loew’s all-conquering Die Manshaaft, has been the bone of much transfer contention all summer long amidst the post-World Cup Galactico shake-up carried out by Fiorentino Perez at Madrid. The arrivals of Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez has seen Xabi Alonso and Angel di Maria move away from Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, and it was thought that Khedira would also be part of the exit party. Arsenal had made moves to bring him to the Emirates after the World Cup but a deal apparently fell through due to the inability of both parties, Arsenal and Khedira, to come to an agreement of wages.
Real, on their part, are willing to cash in on the 27-year-old midfielder whose contract runs out by next summer, and a £10 million offer is believed to be sufficient to seal the deal. While it’s been all Arsenal ever since the subject of Khedira’s transfer became open for debate, it appears we will now have to contend with spoilers, some reports stating that Louis van Gaal and Ed Woodward have been snooping around and now gearing up to submit a bid in the region of £10 million for the midfielder. Chelsea have been also linked with him, the prospect of reuniting with Jose Mourinho seen by some as a good incentive.
However, it is Arsene Wenger who now appears to have won Khedira’s heart as only a fee now needs to be agreed with Madrid for a deal to be struck in January. Arsenal are in sure need of a midfielder of Khedira’s ilk, as he is able to fulfill the deep-lying holding midfielder role thought to be the missing appendage in Wenger’s title-aspiring assembly. Both captain Mikel Arteta and Mattiue ‘flames’ Flamini have struggled to be convincing in that position, with recurring injuires making them quite inconsistent. Khedira, of course, has has his own challenges with injuries, having sat out the majority of Madrid’s double-winning campaign last season, coming back to feature in the run-in to the clinching of La Decima in May. Without any impediments, he went on to play a stellar role in Germany’s World Cup success, scoring a goal, off a Mesut Ozil assist, in the 7-1 rout of hosts, Brasil.
With Toni Kross and Luka Modric now the key pair of Ancelotti’s team this season, and Illaramendi the one for the future, the German International knows better than just being ready to stay as a spare, opting instead for another experience elsewhere, England being the most likely destination.
A very important role awaits Khedira at the Emirates where he is sure to get ample opportunity to thrive under the exciting ambience in and around the Emirates at the moment.
That said, do not be surprised if Wenger says we are still not close to signing him.
