Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Alexandre Lacazette next week, according to reports.
The Gunners have been monitoring Lacazette for a long time and had a £35m bid rebuffed by Lyon when we tried to make a move last summer.
Just a year later, Lyon are now prepared to sanction a deal for Lacazette as they close in on Chelsea’s Bertrand Traore as his replacement.
Wenger is keen on signing a world class striker this summer and had identified either Lacazette or Kylian Mbappe as his top targets.
A move for Mbappe is expected to be difficult to complete due to interest from rival clubs, so Wenger has quickly turned his attentions to Lacazette.
Arsenal submitted a £44m bid for the Lyon striker last week and it appears a move could be confirmed as early as next week.
According to RMC Sports via The Daily Star, Arsenal are expected to hold talks with Lyon next week, where both clubs are expected to finalize the transfer of the striker.
The striker is reportedly open to the idea of moving to Arsenal despite our lack of Champions League football and personal terms won’t be a problem should Arsenal be able to reach an agreement with Lyon.
It is believed a move for Lacazette will not end Arsenal’s interest in Mbappe as Wenger continues to keep tabs on the Monaco man.
Should Lacazette move to the Emirates, his transfer fee will become a club record, smashing the £42.5m we paid to sign Ozil in 2013.
