Arsenal’s interest in Alexandre Lacazette has been confirmed by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.
But the Ligue 1 club are in no rush to sell their prized asset with Atletico Madrid still holding an interest in him despite their transfer ban.
“I do not intend to sell Alexander quickly, because there is always the option of Atletico Madrid to signing him on January 1, 2018,” Aulas told L’Equipe. “I also listen to what Alexander says.
“I saw Arsene during the match between France and England [on June 13]. I was with Gerard Houllier [who is an adviser to Aulas] and I understand he told Gerard that there could be an interest from Arsenal.
“But it is premature to say that things will be done.
“We can not let a player of that quality go without his replacement [lined up].
Aulas has also told the Gunners to up their bid to £57m.
The Lyon boss was earlier today quoted as saying “he thinks” Lacazette will stay. This may be down to the Gunners still yet to up thier initial £44m bid.
Arsenal are expected to continue negotiations with Lyon to discuss the concluding part of the deal that would see Lacazette join Arsenal, with the French club already lining up several stars as his replacement.
Other reports adds that positive news on the new negotiations, will see the deal go through this weekend, with Wenger keen on completing the deal ahead of his side’s trip to Australia for pre-season.
