Wenger has admitted that he is open to making new signings in January after seeing his squad
decimated by injuries this season
Arsenal have been travelling to Porto to watch FC Porto’s midfielder Danilo Peireira, according to the Metro.
The Gunners have sent several scouts including their chief scout Boa Morte to FC Porto’s games but it was speculated that the Gunners were interested in signing Ruben Neves.
However, it has been revealed that the Gunners have been monitoring Neves teammate Danilo Pereira. The Gunners chief scout who went to the Stadio de Dragao on one occasion (via the Metro) confirmed to O’ Jogo that the club has been monitoring Pereira and not Neves as Speculated, He said:
‘I went to Madeira, but not to watch Neves. He’s an 8, not a 6.’
‘I’ve watched Danilo since he was 15/16 years at Benfica. His development has been impressive, but I wasn’t surprised by it.’
‘Danilo has quality for a different challenge, he just need to be given the opportunity. Things are already easy for him at FCP.’
The midfielder has a release clause of £29.5m in his contract with the Portuguese club but the Metro claims the club will be willing to discuss a lower fee for the midfielder.
The Gunners have lost several midfielders to injury this term with Jack Wilshere, Santi Carzola, Mikel Arteta and Francis Coquelin all out injured and Pereira will be a decent addition to the Gunners squad.
