Leceister City have decided to reduce their asking price for Riyad Mahrez, according to reports.
Mahrez is one of Wenger’s summer targets but the boss is prioritising a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar at the moment.
Interest in Lemar did not stop Arsenal from making inquiries about Mahrez and were reportedly quoted £50m for the winger. That convinced Wenger to pursue a move for the Monaco man who is expected to cost around that same amount.
However, progress hasn’t been made on that front also and Arsenal may have now received the opportunity of revisiting it’s pursuit of Mahrez.
According to a report in the Daily Cannon, Leicester have now dropped their asking price to £40m after the winger’s suitors balked at their valuation.
Mahrez has told Leicester City he wants a change of scenario this summer and both the player and the club are keen to resolve his future as soon as possible.
Arsenal were reportedly willing to pay at most £35m for the winger and with Leicester’s new valuation now closer to that figure, Wenger could be tempted into reopening negotiations with the Foxes.
AS Roma have already had a bid rejected from Leicester for Mahrez because it was a lot lower than their valuation but it is believed the player will hold out for a move to Arsenal even if the Italians returned with an improved offer.
It does seem the only thing stopping Mahrez from a move to the Emirates is for Arsenal to reach an agreement with Leicester.
