Arsenal remain confident of signing Thomas Lemar, despite Monaco playing hardball with negotiations.
Monaco have already rejected three bids from Arsenal, insisting the winger will not be sold at any price.
But Wenger hasn’t given up on signing the winger and is confident of reaching a compromise with the French club.
Lemar was long identified as Arsenal’s no. 1 summer target but a deal has been difficult to strike because of Monaco’s other transfer deals.
After rejecting several bids from Arsenal, Monaco have placed an £80m price tag on the midfielder to deter Arsenal.
A five-year deal worth £100,000-a- week has also been drawn up for Lemar and Wenger is even prepared to smash the club record transfer fee for the second time this summer just to sign the winger.
Lemar’s representatives are now trying to force a move to the Emirates and have held talks with Monaco to inform them of the player’s desire to join Arsenal.
The winger played a key role on Monaco’s march to the Ligue One title last season and Monaco do not want to lose him after losing Fernando Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko to Manchester City and Chelsea respectively.
It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will be able to pull this deal off, he would be a massive acquisition if he joins us.
