Paris Saint Germain are set to rival Arsenal for the services of Jean-Michel Seri, according to reports.
Seri is apparently Wenger’s top target to strengthen the midfield this summer but the boss is yet to make a concrete offer because of Nice’s involvement in the Champions League playoffs.
Reports claim Arsenal are hoping to sign the midfielder for less than the £33m release clause and believe that should Nice fail to qualify for the UCL group stages, there would be a chance of signing Seri less than the clause.
It appears that plan is set to fail as PSG have now joined the race to sign the midfielder.
According to Le Parisien via Football.London, PSG could make a move for Seri as replacement for Blaise Matuidi.
Matuidi – another player who has also been linked with Arsenal this summer is expected to leave the Parc de Princes this summer and PSG are already looking out for a replacement.
PSG hierarchy was impressed by the starring role Seri played in Nice’s third place finish last season and are now keen to sign him up.
Interest from the French club in the midfielder is set to throw Arsenal’s plans into turmoil as we may now have to make our move as soon as possible or risk losing out on another top target.
The hope of signing the midfielder for less than his release clause should be abandoned because PSG’s interest has now made that impossible, the only option left is to activate the clause and then set a deal in motion as soon as possible.
