Birmingham City will be hit by a three-way invasion for their young hotshot, Demarai Gray according to Mirror.
Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal have registered their interests in the 18 year old starlet whose remarkable form has seen him break into the first team at St. Andrews as a regular. He is widely regarded as one of the brightest up and coming talents in the country.
Brendan Rodgers might have been away of this when he inserted the “matching rights deal” clause as part of the loan agreement which saw Jordan Ibe move to Birmingham. The Reds’ manager is now looking forward to exploiting that privilege in the coming January window with a bid within the region of £2m being lined up for the youngster.
Gray has been through the U-16 and 17 age grades and has made one appearance with the U-19s, making quick and steady strides which will likely lead to a senior call up in the not too distant future. His style of play has already seen him likened to Liverpool star Raheem Sterling, and considering Arsenal had made an enquiry for the 19 year old Sterling when he was still 15, club scouts are on course not to let this particular prospect passed without persevering pursuit.
After having success over the years with the pace of Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wenger will be looking to add more young English prospects to his team, who can also provide the emerging trend of traits noticeable amongst England’s brightest talents, vis-à-vis Raheem Sterling and Ross Barkley. Arsenal had 5 players on the pitch during the Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia and Wenger seems impressed about the challenge of helping Roy Hodgson build a team capable of winning an International tournament for the first time since 1966.
The pursuit is more in Arsenal’s long-term interest, though, as there is a need for more variety in the team, with the recent vituperation by Emmanuel Frimpong that our team is full of too many players of similar playing style. The ex-Arsenal player now plays in the obscurity of the Russian League with FC Ufa, but remains passionate about all things Arsenal, voicing his frustration during the Anderlecht game via his twitter account on Wednesday.
Wenger may want to use Gray as the beginning of an appeasal of ‘the Dench’s frustration. He would have to fend off Spurs, but more importantly Liverpool as Birmingham have already rejected a £500,000 bid from Crystal Palace and his price is likely to go far higher with the big guns now watching developments.
