Reports that Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos has prompted a mixed reaction from supporters on social media.
The Greece international, who is out of contract in 2019, is believed to be on his way out of the Signal Iduna Park at the end of season and has been linked with moves to Manchester United, Chelsea, Juventus and several other European clubs.
However, Bild are reporting that the Gunners are in the driving seat to sign the 29-year-old as it is claimed that the Emirates Stadium is his ’probable’ destination in the summer where he’d be reunited with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Furthermore, it is understood that the north London outfit’s head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is the man pushing for the deal and that he is in ‘close contact’ with the defender’s agent Konstantinos Farras.
Mislintat helped bring Papastathopoulos to Dortmund from Werder Bremen in 2013 and any deal for the defender this summer is likely to be in the region €20m.
