Manuel Pellegrini is set to be without Vincent Kompany for the home encounter against Arsenal after the Belgian defender picked up a hamstring injury during the 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night. Eliaquim Mangala looks likely to deputise alongside Nicolas Otamendi in central defence, with first-choice full-backs Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna expected to start, given that their respective deputies, Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta, are ruled out through injury.

Fernandinho and Fernando may form the central midfield partnership, with Yaya Toure and Fabian Delph the other options. Toure may again be stationed in the number ten role, although the Ivorian did struggle to make an impression in that position in midweek.

Kelechi Iheanacho could challenge Toure for that starting berth, with Kevin de Bruyne and either Jesus Navas or Samir Nasri likely to form the rest of the attacking midfield trio in Pellegrini’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation.

However the boss may decide to play Iheanacho behind Sergio Aguero on Sunday, with Wilfried Bony the alternative.

David Silva (hamstring) has been ruled out once again.
