Manchester United vs Arsenal. Old Trafford Stadium. May 17, 2015.
Arsene Wenger and his men went to the Theatre of Dreams to take on a Manchester United side desperate to avoid playing Champions league qualifications.
And although Arsenal went behind in the first half with a beautifully taken goal from Ander Herrera, the Gunners however, found the equalizer at the closing stages of the match through substitute Theo Walcott.
David Ospina: 6
The Colombian goalkeeper can hardly be blamed for Herrera’s goal, as he was left exposed by his defence who should have done better in keeping the ball out. Other than that, he looked solid all through the game.
Honestly, Mertesacker has improved a lot in recent weeks. The captain looked solid both in defence and in going forward. The German could have been the man of the match for us today.
Other than him and Monreal failing to keep Herrera busy before the goal, the Frenchman gave a good account of himself today.
Manchester United had a game plan against Arsenal, and that was to attack using mainly the right wing. This meant Monreal didn’t have as much work to do as Bellerin. However, he should take a big part of the blame for letting Herrera have the space he had that led to the goal.
The poor lad was torn apart today. The fact that the United – under van Gaal – has only one way to go about their attack – through Young’s wing – meant that he was going to have his hands filled up. He was overshadowed and tormented by the trio of Rojo, Young and Fellaini.
The Frenchman has been quiet in recent games. Could it be fatigue setting in?
There was no real bite from Cazorla today. He was almost as quiet as Coquelin.
Somehow, Ozil surprisingly worked harder than Cazorla and Coquelin. The German does really need to shot sometimes when he has the chance!
Ramsey: 7.5 [MoTM]
The workaholic Welshman was everywhere today. Ramsey for me was the best Arsenal player at Old Trafford. Am sure you would agree that he was Arsenal’s man of the match.
Alexis: 5.5 [FoTM]
I don’t think there’s ever been a match this season that featured Alexis from the start, which he went missing throughout the game. Yes he’s been Arsenal best man this season,, but he failed to turn up against United.
Aside from the fact that he has gone cold these days, today was just not looking like his day either.
Came on for Alexis and immediately changed the flow of the game. He showed the rest of his teammates that taking a shot, on or off target, could result to anything.
He came on the same time as Walcott and they changed the flow of the game immediately.
He was brought on to run down the clock.
