It is going to be a hot winter as the heat steadily steps up the centigrade scale. The hot chase for players for the January transfer window is shifting from yellow to orange, and for the Red Devils, they are certainly feeling blue at the moment.
They may be ahead of us in the race for fourth place at the moment after beating us last weekend, but a revenge on the transfer market seems to be on the cards with reports according to the Express suggesting that Real Madrid goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, will shun any interest to move to Old Trafford in favour of either Arsenal or Liverpool in January.
This comes on the back drop of reports which continue to link the 32-year old three-time Champions League winning goal keeper away from the Bernabeu even as Carlo Ancelotti continues to consider his options for the man to stand between the sticks. Madrid lost Diego Lopez to Milan in the summer but acquired the very impressive Costa Rican World Cup goalie, Keylor Navas, from Levante and it appears the Navas might be considered in the long term over Casillas, prompting the La Roja captain to consider his future.
United will be especially troubled by Casillas inclination to the other reds – even being more inclined to the red-and-whites – as they have been on the look-out for a viable competition to first choice stopper David de Gea. The 23-year old Spaniard has been in sizzling form for Louis van Gaal’s team, single-handedly keeping them in games at times with repeated stunning saves in crucial games this season against Everton, Chelsea, City and Arsenal. Another Spanish goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, who has been a free agent since the expiration of his contract last season with Barcelona, had been training with United with the prospect of signing a deal with them. However, reports have it that the recurrence of his injuries – which saw him fail a medical at Monaco this summer – will prove the resistance on van Gaal’s part.
Arsenal has been very well linked with many goal keepers throughout these periods leading up to the winter window, with summer signing David Ospina out till the New Year and Wojciech Szczesny swinging from suspension to injuries. As for Liverpool, they seem to be in most need of a goal keeping salvation at the moment with Simon Mignolet’s inconsistencies a major part of Liverpool’s slump this season. Brendan Rodgers will have to fend off Wenger’s interest in Casillas, even as Wenger has categorically rubbished any purported interest in Chelsea’s Petr Cech.
Perhaps, Cech goes to Madrid and Casillas comes to London. It’s quite simple, innit?
