Arsene Wenger is set to miss out on long term target Karim Benzema as former Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is interested in taking the French striker to the Allianz Arena.
The Italian tactician was dismissed by Real Madrid at the end of the 2013/2014 season and he is set to take over from Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich this summer when the Spaniard leave Germany for Manchester City.
With Lewandowski reportedly on his way to the Santiago Bernabeu, Carlo Ancelotti has identified Benzema as the man to replace the Pole.
According to Spanish Publication Sport via talkSport, Ancelotti has already discussed the possibility of moving to the Bundesliga with the player.
Arsenal have been strongly linked with a move to sign Benzema over the years but the Gunners have not been able to secure the services of the striker. Wenger also monitored Benzema last summer and with the Gunners reportedly in search of a top striker this summer, Benzema could have been a viable option. However, the club will now face strong competition from Bayern Munich for the striker’s services.
Benzema joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2009 and has scored 106 league goals in 207 La Liga appearances for the German side.
