Arsenal seem to have been handed a major transfer boost ahead of the summer with reports that long term target had rejected a move to fellow London rivals in the January transfer window.
Arsenal target Gonzalo Higuain rejected a move to Chelsea in the last winter transfer window, as revealed by the Daily Star.
The Argentine striker who is currently having a superb season at Napoli was reportedly a target of Chelsea last month but the striker rejected a move to West London after he refused to receive assurances on a starting spot ahead of Diego Costa.
Arsene Wenger had been linked with a move to sign the striker last summer but the French man refused to pursue a move to the striker after it was revealed he would cost around £70m.
However with the Gunners reportedly in search of a top class striker next season, Wenger could battle Chelsea for Higuain’s signature.
Wenger was also reportedly interested in the 28 year old striker when he was at Madrid but failed to make a move for the player who ended up signing for Real Madrid. Many thought higuain’s move to Napoli would take him way from the spotlight but the striker’s superb performances at Napoli have caused Premier league giants to continue monitoring his situation.
The Blues were reportedly ready to offer £40m for the striker’s services last month. It is unknown if Napoli will do business for that price but should there be any indication that the Italian club will do business for that fee, it would make sense should Wenger Rival the Blues for his signature. With the prospect of playing Champions league football next season all but over for the Blues, Arsenal will stand at an advantage in the race to sign the striker.
Higuain has scored 24 league goals for Napoli this season.
