The possibility of the success of Arsenal’s transfer plans going into the January window has been considerably boosted with reports according to Daily Star that Lucas Silva may not be joining Real Madrid, as Cruzeiro have rejected a bid from the capital club.
The 21-year old samba boy is in the middle of a tug of war between Arsenal, who had made first contact, and the big-spending Los Blancos, as both clubs seek to add more grit and substance to their engines ahead of the second lap of the European season. Madrid have looked the favourites to land the highly-rated midfielder due to a perceived preference on the player’s part for the Bernabeu but as they are negligent in meeting the demands of his club, the door opens wide for an Emirates switch in January.
Cruzeiro, the current Champions of the Brazilian Serie A, have deemed Madrid’s £12m bid about £3m less of their evaluation of Silva and will be open to meeting up with any club who would be up for the price. Where the Merengues are hesitant about splashing such on the player who they think maybe unproven as yet, Arsenal’s representatives have done their basics on the player and with good words being reported, there could be a sanction granted for the full terms of the Brazilian’s requests to be met.
Lucas is highly rated for his strong composed abilities as a midfielder. In comparison to the past brasilians we’ve had in the middle of the park, he can be said to be made of more of Gilberto Silva than of Denilson. A technically gifted player, he has the capacity to sit as a holding midfielder, regardless of his age, as he has the frame to hold his own against advancing opponents. Such is his energy, that he can also make play from the center with an excellence in distributing the ball.
Presently a part of Brasil’s Under-20 team, it won’t be long before his stock rises to the extent of beign considered for a full call up into the Brazilian National team, and with none of Paulinho, Gustavo, Fernando or Fernandinho having a firm grip of the defensive midfield role in Brazil – all close to their 30s – it could be Silva who completes a midfield set up for the Selecao composed of young exciting starf of the future, a collection that already boasts Neymar, Philippe Coutinho and Chelsea’s Oscar.
Out injury worries in midfield make it compulsory that we must sign and perhaps rather than going for those who are maybe seen as established and experienced, we could look out for one who could spring more surprises as their game is not yet universally known. Calum Chambers has not failed, though being only 19 and with just one full season under his belt before this.
