Arsenal are on the verge of missing out on Nice midfielder Jean-Michel Seri, after Barcelona joined the race for his signature.
The 26 year old midfielder is reportedly a top target of Arsenal but the club had refrained from making an official bid because of Nice’s involvement in the Champions League playoffs.
It appears our decision to delay a move has now gone against us and has given other clubs time to join the race.
Last week, it was PSG but now it is Barcelona who are threatening Arsenal’s chances of signing the midfielder.
According to a report in the Daily Cannon, Seri is now edging closer to a move to Barcelona.
The report which claims the midfielder is now set to sign for the Catalan giants cites L’Equipe as it’s source.
It’s being claimed that Barcelona first indicated their interest in the midfielder as far back as November.
However, they focused their attention on signing PSG’s Marco Verratti. Now that it is obvious they won’t be getting the Italian, they have now turned their attention back to Seri.
Barcelona will only now have to activate the midfielder’s £36m release clause which shouldn’t be a problem for them considering they just got almost £200m from Neymar’s sale.
Gooners had been hoping Seri would be the much needed successor to Santi Cazorla but Barcelona’s interest means we will have to continue our search for a successor to the Spaniard.
This goes on to show the importance of doing business early in the transfer window, if only Arsenal had pursued its interest in Seri earlier, we wouldn’t be facing the prospect of losing out on him.
