Manchester City are interested in signing Mesut Ozil, according to reports.
Ozil’s future at Arsenal is currently up in the air as he has failed to sign a contract extension to his current deal which expires in 2018.
Arsenal have been in talks with the midfielder over a new deal since August but it doesn’t look like both parties are close to reaching an agreement.
This has given room for speculations linking the player with other clubs. Spanish newspaper Marca recently claimed the player is keen on a move back to Real Madrid where he joined us from in 2013.
Bookmakers Ladbrokes have now followed up that report by placing Madrid as favorites to sign the German. The Spanish giants are placed on an odd of 7/4 to sign the playmaker.
Manchester City are also among the clubs interested in the midfielder but are placed at 16/1 behind Paris Saint Germain, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Barcelona who are placed at 5/2, 6/1, 8/1 and 10/1 respectively.
A Ladbrokes spokesman said: “Arsenal fans would be devastated to lose Mesut Ozil, but unless they can agree a new contract, a return to Real Madrid can’t be ruled out.”
City have signed many Arsenal stars in the past and it is not surprising that they are linked with Ozil.
I personally doubt if City are interested in signing the playmaker considering they already have enough options in his position.
Also, Wenger has shown over the years that he detests selling his players to rival clubs and I don’t think the boss will sell Ozil to City under any circumstances.
