Mikel Arteta rejected the chance to become the next Arsenal manager.

That’s according to Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol.

Oohtobeagooner understand Unai Emery is expected to be announced as the new Arsenal manager later this week.

He will replace Arsene Wenger after the Frenchman left the club following 22 years in charge.

“What we are being told is that Mikel Arteta has withdrawn from the process to become the next Arsenal manager,” Solhekol said on Sky Sports.

“What that means is the PSG manager Unai Emery is now the No 1 choice to be the next Arsenal manager.

“That is what one source is telling us, one source that is giving us very good information throughout this process.

“He had concerns, we were told, about the fact that the transfer budget he was going to be given this summer was about £50m.

“Also he had ‘other issues’ which is what we’re being told about taking the job.

“What that all means now is that Unai Emery is the No 1 choice to be the next Arsenal manager.”

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has reacted to the news and has criticised those in charge at the club.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It’s like they’re at the sushi shop.

“You know the stuff that’s just going past? Yeah, I’ll have that. I’ll take that. I’ll leave them ones. No, I’ll take that one now.

“What’s going on at Arsenal, where’s Unai Emery come from? I can’t get it out of my head.
