Manchester United are looking to tempt Mesut Ozil away from Arsenal, according to reports.

The Sun via Football Insider claim that Jose Mourinho has made the Germany international a shock target following delayed talks over his contract renewal at Arsenal.

Ozil is already into the penultimate year of his contract at the Emirates and is long term future is yet to be resolved. The midfielder has been in talks with the Gunners hierarchy over a contract renewal since May but there are no indications that an agreement will be reached anytime soon.

Some reports have claimed the midfielder is holding out for a new deal worth £250,000 a week which Arsenal is unwilling to meet while others have claimed talks are still ongoing with Arsenal still confident that the midfielder would sign an extension.

Manchester United now want to take advantage of the uncertainty and are preparing make a move for the midfielder next summer transfer window.

The report claims the Old Trafford club are prepared to pay the £250,000 salary Ozil has reportedly demanded and will be hoping the midfielder doesn’t agree an extension with us since by then.

Mourinho will hope his interest will convince the player to continue playing hardball with Arsenal and then join him at Old Trafford. The pair enjoyed a good relationship working together at Real Madrid and the Portuguese is counting on that.

However, I don’t see the possibility of Ozil moving to Old Trafford from Arsenal. If not for anything, Wenger detest selling key players to a rival and would likely reject Mourinho’s offer. Even if Ozil plays hardball and refuses to sign a new deal with us, he wouldn’t be short of offers from abroad, making a move away from England more likely if we are forced to sell.
