Arsenal are determined to keep hold of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and they are as a result ready to offer him a new bumper deal that will tie him to the club for more years.
The North London club have been struggling to extend the contracts of their star players that are already in the final year of their deal at the club, among who are Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
Oxlade-Chamberlain has attracted interests from Chelsea with the Blues boss Antonio Conte having him as one of his top targets and considering him a good option to add to his squad at Stamford Bridge. And there are rumours that he could make the move across London before the transfer window shuts.
However, Arsenal are resolved not to let go of the English midfielder and are prepared to offer him a new four-year deal worth £185,000 per week to keep him at the Emirates Stadium, according to the Daily Mail
The 24-year-old had earlier rejected a £100,000 per week deal offered him by Arsenal but with Chelsea lurking around and ready to snap him up, the reports says Arsenal will start discussions with Oxlade-Chamberlain this week to clear his future.
And Arsenal were optimistic the outcome of the discussions will be favourable. Oxlade-Chamberlain has become an integral member of Arsene Wenger’s squad and has started their two games against Leicester City and Stoke City this season.
Shockingly, a new twist emerged as Chamberlain reportedly told Wenger that he will not put pen to paper on a new deal, leaving Chelsea as favourite to sign him. He is holding out for £150,000-a-week and Chelsea may be able to pay him that sum, report the Express.
Wenger, whose side has endured a mixed start to their Premier League campaign, firmly believes the England international will remain at the club.
He said earlier this summer, “Alex [Oxlade-Chamberlain] will stay.”
“100 per cent I expect him to stay. There is no speculation. No matter what happens he will stay.”
He is a versatile player who can play both as a central midfielder and in the right wing-back. He has made 196 appearances and scored 20 goals since joining the Gunners from Southampton.
