The Mirror reports, Arsene Wenger has moved to dash any hopes fans had of new signing in the January transfer window when he admitted that the Gunners are “not close” to signing any new players.
With Arsenal preparing to lose contract rebels Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez either for free in the summer or for a reduced fee this month, he was asked if he is planning on bringing in any new players during the current transfer window.
“No. I can’t give you any news on any transfer because we are not close to signing anyone.
“We signed a Greek boy, who looks quite good in training. But apart from that we are not on anything.”
The Greek boy Wenger mentioned is Konstantinos Mavrapanos, a 20-year-old center-back who has been snapped up by PAS Giannia.
The Greece Under-21 international is one for the future and is expected to be loaned out, with Werder Bremen a potential destination.
