West Ham and Crystal Palace are being mentioned as possible destinations for out of favor Arsenal star Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs is expected to leave Arsenal this summer after becoming surplus to requirements. The arrival of Sead Kolasinac to compete with Nacho Monreal for the first team spot has pushed Gibbs further down the pecking order and he is now expected to leave the Emirates this summer but Arsenal’s price tag is proving to be a stumbling block.
Watford were keen on signing the defender but dropped their interest because of Arsenal’s demands.
According to The Daily Cannon, Arsenal demanded £15m for the defender and Watford were put off by the price tag.
The report now claims West Ham and Crystal Palace could be potential destinations for the defender.
It remains to be seen whether any of the two clubs will be willing to meet Arsenal demands, considering they both have good enough options at left back already.
West Ham currently have Aaron Cresswell on their books while Crystal Palace signed Patrick Van Aanholt in January, so it is unlikely any of them will want to spend big in that position.
Gibbs contract expires at the end of next season and considering he has been out of Arsenal’s starting xi in the last two years, interested parties feel he is worth a lot less than what Arsenal are demanding.
But who can blame Wenger and co? The inflation rate of the transfer market means clubs now have to pay twice the value of their targets, so I don’t see any reason why Arsenal shouldn’t demand same in Gibbs case. The only problem here is that the player’s contract expires next year.
