Ousmane Dembele insists he isn’t going anywhere this summer, and plans to stay in Barcelona for the foreseeable future, despite rumours suggesting otherwise.
Recently, Dembele has been the latest name the media claim Sven Mislintat might try to bring to North London. The pair have a relationship from their time together in Dortmund, as Arsenal’s Head of Recruitment brought the young winger to Germany in the first place.
Dembele told TV programme Telefoot that he isn’t thinking about a move just yet though.
“Will I leave this summer? No, not at all.” he said. “I signed a five-year contract with Barcelona and I’m going to be in Barcelona for a long time, don’t worry. I will not leave from here after the season ends.”
The 20-year-old hasn’t had the best of starts in Spain. A couple of muscle injuries kept him out for most of the season, and as a result he’s struggled to replicate last season’s form.
In 2016/17 he scored 10 and assisted 21 in 49 appearances, an average of one goal contribution every 1.58 games. This campaign he has just one goal and seven assists, which is one goal contribution every 2.25 games.
In fairness, he’s also been playing in bigger matches this year. For example, his three Champions League appearances came against Juventus, Chelsea and AS Roma, whereas last season he racked up a goal and five assists against Legia Warsaw in the same competition.
Regardless, it seems Barcelona aren’t forcing him out the door just yet, unfortunately for Arsenal.
