Arsene Wenger is eyeing a move for Manchester United midfielder Micheal Carrick this summer, according to reports.

Arsene Wenger is reportedly interested in bolstering his midfield this summer and could make a shocking move for Carrick.

The midfielder have spent ten years at Old Trafford and the club is yet to open contract renewal talks with him.

According to transfer market web via the DailyStar, Wenger have been monitoring Carrick in recent months and he is prepared to offer him a deal when he becomes a free agent in July.

The likes of Thomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini are likely to leave the club at the end of the season, although Wenger has identified Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka as his top target but the opportunity to sign a quality midfielder with a lot of Premier League experience like Carrick on a free transfer would be too tempting for Wenger.

Carrick’s contract at Manchester United expires at the end of this season and the Old Trafford club is yet to show any indication that they are prepared to offer him a new deal.

Wenger previously tried to sign the midfielder on three occasions and will be hoping to be lucky the fourth time this summer.

Carrick has played over 250 league games for Manchester United since 2006 and should Wenger sign the 34 year old, his experience will definitely be a plus for the team.
