Manchester United legend Patrice Evra has jumped to the defence of Arsenal striker Oliver Giroud.
The striker remains a divisive figure, both among Arsenal fans and those following France at Euro 2016 this summer, many of whom feel that he lacks the killer instinct required to fire a side to major honours.
“Unfortunately, people compare him a lot to others,” said Juventus fullback Evra after Friday’s victory over Romania. “But he is there to score goals. That’s what I tell him: concentrate on what you know.
“It’s he who unblocked the match for us. We’re really behind him.
“When I hear people whistling Olivier, it’s like they are whistling me as well. We are very united, so when they do that, they are whistling the whole France side.”
