Former Arsenal striker Charlie Nicholas believes Arsenal should sell Alexis Sanchez this summer.
Arsenal’s summer dealings have been clouded by the uncertainty surrounding the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as the pair continue to stall on signing new contracts.
Both players contracts expires at the end of next season and while Arsenal are hopeful of getting Ozil to sign a new deal, that of Alexis Sanchez is proving to be problematic.
Yesterday, reports emerged that the Chilean is now demanding a whooping £400,000 a week deal to stay at Arsenal which would make him the highest paid in the Premier League.
And Nicholas has urged Arsenal to sell the forward if an interested club comes up with a £50m bid.
“I think Sanchez is completely and utterly his own man,” he told Sky Sports, as quoted by IBtimes.
“We have seen that with his actions last season. He is a winner, a warrior, a fighter, a player we all truly admire and we’d love to keep him but if his heart is on trying to get the same wages as people like Messi and Ronaldo, it’s not going to materialise.
“If they have to sell him and it would be harsh, painful with only one year remaining but they may have to consider this. Sanchez is in control of the whole situation because the club have been so slow in reacting and sorting this out.
“I have genuinely got bad vibes about Sanchez. It just feels as if he is teasing and tormenting other people to make an offer that Arsenal might have to consider. I hope I am wrong in that. I am certainly hopeful that if Lacazette’s signing is an influence it should surely be a positive one.”
Looking at things from Nicholas’ point of view, it is understandable why he is calling for Sanchez to be sold if he doesn’t want to sign a new contract. However, the question should be what effect would it have on our chances of winning the title if he leaves.
Yes, the popular saying is one man doesn’t make a team but one man can actually take you a long way to winning the title.
I think we should hold on to Sanchez, no matter the situation may be, because selling him and signing a replacement is like taking two steps backward and then another step forward.
Fellow Gooners, what do you think? Should Sanchez be sold or not?
