Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez have reportedly rejected Arsenal’s latest contract offers.
The duo have been in talks with the club over new deals since last summer but an agreement couldn’t be reached. Following months of protracted talks, negotiations were postponed until the end of the season and Wenger chose to focus on the final games of the season.
Following our FA cup triumph last Sunday, Arsenal have offered both players fresh terms but they both turned down the new offer.
According to The Times via The Daily Cannon, both players still have no intention to extend their contracts.
The reports claim Alexis Sanchez is eyeing a move away from the Emirates, after his agent held talks with Bayern Munich and Manchester City amid the numerous interest in his services while Ozil is planning to stay until the end of his contract and that is because he has no offer on the table at the moment. Hence he could decide to leave if a club approaches him during the transfer window.
This will come as bad news to Gooners who were hoping Wenger’s new contract will convince the duo to put pen to paper on new deals.
At first, it was thought that the players had refused to commit their futures because of Wenger’s but their decision to turn down a new offer after the boss signed for another two years isn’t a good development.
Arsenal now need to act fast and identify potential replacements because it’s going to be difficult keeping a player with one year left in his contract, there is a huge chance that this could be the last season we will see both Sanchez and Ozil in an Arsenal shirt, unless they sign new deals.
Should Arsenal do everything possible to keep both stars? Should they keep one and sell the other or should Wenger just bring in two quality and suitable replacements this summer?
