Mesut Ozil admits he wants to remain at Arsenal and is hoping to agree a new contract with the club as soon as possible.

Ozil’s contract expires at the end of next season and he is yet to agree a new contract with the club.

Despite having just one year left in his deal the German is struggling to attract interest from other clubs like Sanchez and Chamberlain are doing.

He is currently in Australia  for the club’s preseason tour and is hoping a deal over a new contract will be reached when the team returns to London at the end of the month.

“It is definitely my preference to stay,” Ozil said at the launch of the club’s Puma-made third kit, as quoted by the Express.

“It is such a great club and I have always said that I feel very good at Arsenal. Once everyone is back in London we will sit down and discuss about the future.

“For now the most important thing is our pre-season and getting through the tour, training and getting fitness. When I’m back in London, we will sit down and discuss.”

Ozil also had a word or two for Sanchez who doesn’t look like he wants to extend his own contract. The playmaker has now urged his Chile counterpart to commit his future to the club and help us achieve big things in the future.

“It would hit the team quite hard if he left because he’s a player who always delivers,” said Ozil.

”It would be a setback to winning the title, but in the end it’s the player’s decision.

“I hope Alexis stays but I don’t know what the status is, to be honest. I value him a lot as a player and he’s very well suited to the game Arsenal play.

“From a personal view I’d really appreciate if he stays, but it’s the player’s decision after all and there’s not much more I can comment on that.”

Ozil and Sanchez played key roles in our FA Cup triumph last season and could also be crucial to our chances of winning the league title next season.

It’s imperative that Arsenal keep them both as losing our best players is not the best way to prepare for a title challenge.
