Arsenal new signing Granit Xhaka has revealed the role Wenger played in his decision to leave Borussia Monchengladbach for the Emirates.
The 23 year old midfielder who recently completed a move to Arsenal was made to dream about playing for the Gunners after he was told by Wenger that the club was a paradise and it would be ideal for him to move to the Emirates if he wants to enjoy his football.
Speaking on how Wenger convinced him to move to the Emirates, Xhaka said, as quoted by Ibtimes:
“It was madness, he’s a legend for me.”
“He suddenly is on the mobile and wants me. I will never forget his first sentence. He said: ‘If you want to enjoy football, you have to join us. Here is the paradise.’ He has an incredibly calm but convincing manner. It makes me proud to work under such a coach.”
The midfielder also added he was relieved to complete his move to the Emirates before the Euro 2016 championship.
“It was very important [to complete the deal before the tournament], I wanted it by all means,” the Arsenal star explained.
“It could be very costly if you don’t have a clear mind during a tournament. Then agents or clubs call you all the time, you are just distracted. I am just delighted that everything’s sorted now.”
Xhaka is Wenger’s first summer signing after completing a £33m move for Monchengladbach in May.
