Santi Cazorla has returned to full Arsenal training for the first time since sustaining an Achilles injury back in October 2016.
The Spanish midfielder has had a number of surgeries including a skin graft from his arm and looks to be edging closer to his first-team return for the Gunners. Cazorla has expressed his desire to feature for Arsenal before the end of the season, with Arsene Wenger’s men still to play Burnley, Leicester and Huddersfield in the Premier League.
The 33-year-old was sent to former club Real Oviedo earlier this week as part of his rehabilitation and has now been pictured in training with his team-mates at London Colney. There is no indication that Cazorla will be ready for Arsenal’s clash with Burnley on Sunday and the Spaniard midfielder is hesitant to rush back.
‘I’ve still got some way to go,’ he told AS at the end of last month.
‘Because after being sidelined for 18 months, everything has to be done in its own time. But the sensations I have keep getting better and I’m feeling optimist about the future.
‘The objective is to play some part with the team before the season ends, but we have to take things carefully.
‘After being out for so long it will take a while to get back into form, it’s a real struggle, but when you have been out like I have, you also notice pains elsewhere – apart from what I’ve had with my tendon.’
