Arsenal Hitman, Afobe celebrates his goal for MK Don against Bradford.

Benik Afobe has continued a very exciting loan spell at Milton Keynes Dons this season, bagging a brace against Bradford City in their Capital One Cup clash Tuesday night and also starring in their 6 – 1 thrashing of Crewe Alexandria over the weekend in which he bagged a goal and an assist. That added to the 6 he has already scored, including a solid brace in their thumping of Manchester United in the third round League Cup tie.

A return of 9 goals in 11 games, 6 as a substitute and also scoring in every match he had started for the League One side this season, is indeed very impressive and though one might suggest that he is doing so in a lower division, a look through the youngster’s files would easily provide evidence that he has always been as potent as it gets for goal scorers.

Perhaps, the ONE we’ve been looking for.

From his under-16 days, Benik had begun to show signs of a tremendous career in waiting, with 40 goals in just one season, the 2007/08 campaign. The acceleration up the age ladder did not see a drastic decline in that return as he maintained an impressive tally of goals. His progress in the Arsenal set up lay side by side with graduations in the England set-up, as he was a key member of the team that were brought back England’s first ever UEFA trophy at Under-17 level in 2010. His impressions in that tournament earned him a place in the Team of The Tournament for the tournament which featured current Arsenal striker, Yaya Sanogo, new Valencia sensation and Arsenal target Paco Alcacer, as well as Juventus midfielder, Paul Pogba.

He has had to contend with many injuries which have somewhat stalled the rapidity with which he would have gone one to make his mark on the first-team. A player known for his power and pace, Afobe is one of those bright icons of the future which the club has identified for the future. This recognition has seen him sent out on several loan spells – his present stint at Stadium MK is his 6th since 2010. While patience has run out on some players, Arsenal is very much holding on to this lad as enough has been seen of him to know that he is a league game or two away from stepping into the big stage proper.

Afobe has the stature and confidence of a real target man. His hold up play is superb, while a great burst of pace will serve as a potential nightmare to even the most composed of defenders. His abilities are so remarkable that not only is he on the same level with one of England’s most potent strikers of all time at Under-16 level, having equaled his record of 4 goals, he has also drown comparison with the great Ian Wright, who is only second to Thierry Henry on the all-time Gunners chart.

Taking into consideration the heights already reached by some of the players with whom Afobe associated with in Liechteinstein back in 2010, it is vital that the 21 year-old Kent-born Benik be integrated into Arsenal’s set up for the future, as he is also capable of turning out in even much brighter light. The season-long loan hopefully will continue to progress very well, as we anticipate he will have an injury-free season.

How much would you be willing to pay for a striker who scores 20 goals in 13 appearances, equals a Michael Owen record and has a UEFA Championship Winners’ medal?

He is that good. Ask Manchester United.

After the evening of June 30, 2015, he should resume at the Emirates immediately!
