Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil has admitted that it was an easy decision to sign a new contract at the club earlier in the year according to SI.com.
The playmaker was heavy linked with a move away from the Emirates in January but he instead quashed those rumours by signing a new long term deal at the club.
The German’s contract was set to come to and end this summer but unlike team mate Alexis Sanchez he choose to commit his long term future to the club. Sanchez eventually signed for Manchester United, who were also keen on recruiting Ozil.
Ozil has been a very key player for the club since his arrival and claimed his 50th Premier League assist at the weekend in a 3-0 win over Watford at the Emirates for his side.
The 29-year-old has always been happy at the club and is looking to build on his efforts from this season as the Gunners look to kick on.
Ozil spoke about the situation in a recent interview:
It feels really good.
I’m really happy to sign here for such a big club like Arsenal. I’ve always said to the club that I’m happy here and now I’ve signed, I’m really happy.
My team mates and family have always supported me. I have a lot of goals here with the team, I want to reach those and I’m really happy.
He continued and went onto add:
I love the city. Before I signed the contract, I spoke with my family about what the best decision was for me.
At the end of the day, it was really easy for me to say ‘yes’ to the club. I’m here for more years and I hope we will win some titles with the team. I believe in that.
