Chelsea are growing increasingly confident of signing Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain, according to reports.
Antonio Conte is desperate to strengthen their squas and is making serious effort to sign Chamberlain despite Wenger’s reluctance to let him leave.
Arsenal’s position has been weakened by the fact that Chamberlain who has one year left in his contract is reluctant to sign a new deal. The Gunners rejected a bid worth £25m from Chelsea for Chamberlain last week but they have now returned with an improved offer.
According to the Evening Standard via the Daily Cannon, Arsenal and Chelsea are in talks over the transfer of Chamberlain.
Although an agreement hasn’t been reached, Chelsea are confident of signing the 23 year old.
The Blues have are offering to pay around £35m and that would represent a huge fee for a player who has just one year left in his contract.
However, considering Chamberlain’s potential, that fee could turn out to be a steal but Arsenal can’t do much about this because they risk losing the winger for nothing next year. Wenger has been adamant that he doesn’t want the England international to leave but he is fully aware that there is little or nothing he can do.
Should Chamberlain join Chelsea, it will be a big dissapointment for Gooners to see one of its most promising player strengthen a rival club in a position where they are obviously weak.
