Arsenal are preparing a third bid worth €60m (£54m) for Thomas Lemar, according to French journalist Julien Maynard.
Monaco have already rejected two bids worth £30m and £40m from Arsenal for the midfielder but Wenger could now return with a third bid which will smash the club’s record transfer fee.
Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon for £52m earlier in the transfer window and Wenger is willing to surpass that fee once again to sign his top target, Lemar.
That’s according to French publication Telefoot journalist Maynard.
Yesterday, reports claimed Arsenal’s chances of signing Lemar have been boosted by Monaco’s pursuit of Rachid Ghezzal but Maynard says the arrival of Ghezzal is unconnected to Lemar’s future.
He also added that Monaco are determined to keep Lemar and have no intention of selling him.
Maynard tweeted as quoted by the Daily Star: “Despite the imminent arrival of Rachid Ghezzal and Arsenal pushing (which could offer nearly €60m), Monaco does not want to sell Thomas Lemar.”
Arsenal’s attempt to sign Lemar hasn’t made any progress despite making the initial approach over a month ago.
With the transfer window gradually winding down, Arsenal run the risk of not just losing out on Lemar but on other targets like Mahrez who had been penciled down as alternatives.
