The door has opened again for Arsenal to make serious inroads into the chase for in-demand star, Marco Reus, after the player’s agent confirmed there’s being no agreement with any clubs as yet.
The 25-year old, who continues to endure a torrid time on the sidelines after been ruled out from any football action till 2015, has been the subject of intense speculation over the next step of his career, some sources quoting Chelsea as already nearing an agreement.
Dirk Hebel has come out to quell such stories, especially the fact that Bayern may have already wrapped up a pre-contract understanding for a summer move.
“There are not negotiations between Marco and Bayern” Hebel said
“There has never been any contact”.
This will come as a huge boost to Arsene Wenger who has been keen on the stylish German forward as he looks to continue the modeling of the Arsenal team to a real World-class force for the future.
Reus repeated injuries have not helped Arsenal’s focus on him as there was believed to be a real interest in opening negotiations with the player before the World Cup only for him to suffer an absence from the tournament entirely due to injury.
As it always is with all of Arsenal’s targets, the usual local rivals will be looking to have a say on the matter, with United, Liverpool and Chelsea all lurking, plotting to play the spoiler. Jose Mourinho had denied that Chelsea were interested in Reus, but the manner of his response that the player belonged to Dortmund at the moment because “the window is closed” could not be taken as him throwing in of the towel.
There is not greater surprise in the football world today than the shock of seeing Borussia Dortmund – after 13 BundesLiga games – rooted at the bottom of the table, staring relegation in the face. Jurgen Klopp’s men have managed to be everyone’s second best team over the past three or four seasons, especially due to the exciting array of young players they have.
Marco Reus is at the very top of that list, and with the continued decline of the team, Reus, more than ever, looks poised to move away from the German giants, with the Premier League his destination.
It seats up well for Arsenal to make a definite move even in January as the player will only cost £20m as stated in the buy-out clause in his current deal. Reus is ready to take his career to the next level after making the move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Dortmund a few summers ago.
Consecutive second place finish behind Bayern and no further progress in the Champions League means the player would be keen for a new experience elsewhere and with Arsenal poised for a rise, he will be joining the right club at the right time.
