Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze is set to snub Arsenal in favour of a move to Liverpool, according to reports.
The 23-year-old German international has been tipped for big things in football and was the hero for his country when he netted the only goal of the World Cup final in Brazil two years ago.
However, he has found life difficult since moving to Bayern Munich and has made just 12 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga leaders this season, several reports have emerged about Gotze’s unhappiness at the Allianz Arena linking him with a move in the summer when he would have just one year left on his current contract.
Liverpool and Arsenal are understood to be monitoring the player’s situation ahead of a summer move.
Arsene Wenger had hoped he would be able to lure the star to the Emirates but he is set to be disappointed as the player has privately indicated he will prefer to work with his former boss Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, according to the Daily Star.
The player recently revealed that he still exchange text messages with current Reds boss and that could have had a big impact in his decision.
However, Wenger who is determined to spend big this summer will now have to turn to other targets and have been linked with a move to sign Gotze’s Germany teammate Toni Kroos and Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka.
