Manchester City are set to beat Arsenal to the signature of Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports.
It is believed that Wenger is eyeing a move for the German midfielder this summer as he prepares to overhaul the midfield. However the French man is set to be disappointed as Manchester City have moved closer to signing the midfielder.
According to the Guardian, the Manchester based club have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign the midfielder as City chief Txiki Begiristain met with Gundogan’s agent in Amsterdam this week.
The player has just one year left in his contract and he is expected to leave the Signal Iduna park this summer but it seems he won’t be heading to the Emirates afterwards.
When quizzed about Gundogan’s future, Dortmund boss Tuchel had this to say:
“I’m not disappointed and I’m not convinced.”
“I do not understand the excitement about all of this. We are all looking forward to next season, we are planning and we speak to advisers; it’s part of the everyday job we do. Am I convinced that he will stay? I don’t really know. I know what we can offer him and if that’s enough for him to stay then so be it.
“He knows why he is here, what he’s doing, what is his position, and how he can develop even further and progress with Dortmund.”
Arsenal have reportedly made Southampton’s Victor Wanyama their priority target for this summer meaning any move for Gundogan depends on Wanyama’s pursuit which has definitely given City the upper hand in the race to sign Gundogan.
