Olympic Lyon have hinted that we made a huge bid for Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window, according to a report in The Metro.
Lacazette was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer with his club going public on a €35m bid which they rejected from us. At that time it was reported that we would return with an improved bid to sign the striker but the rejected bid was the last we heard of the move and we ended up signing Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna.
Olympic Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has now revealed that there were bigger bids than the €35m that went public. The French club’s chief revealed they rejected offers in the region of £50m from two Premier League clubs for the striker. Although he didn’t mention the name of the clubs, reports suggest we are one of the clubs who made the huge bid to sign the striker.
‘This summer, we rejected €55m (£49.7m) for Lacazette from two Premier League clubs and €37m from Napoli for (Corentin) Tolisso,’ Aulas told Tuttosport.
Well, it will not be surprising if it is confirmed on a later date that we were one of the clubs who made the huge bid. Ourselves and West Ham were the two Premier League clubs that tried to sign the striker in the summer and considering the fact that we were desperate to sign a striker, it can’t be ruled out that we made such huge bid.
