Leading tabloid the Daily Star has revealed Manchester United tried to sign Arsene Wenger in the past
The French tactician who is celebrating his 20 years anniversary at the club was sounded out as a potential replacement to replace Ferguson at Manchester United.
Ferguson and Wenger enjoyed great rivalry in the past and it has been revealed that Man Utd tried to sign the Gunners boss in 2002 when Ferguson first planned to retire but Wenger rejected the chance of moving to Old Trafford.
United are not the only club that have tried to sign Wenger in the past as the French man recently revealed he has been approached thrice by Paris Saint Germain in recent years.
Weneger has since become the greatest manager in Arsenal’s history. The French man has won three Premier League titles and six FA cups with the last league title triumph in 2004.
However, he has come under criticism in recent years for a trophyless stint between 2004 and 2014 before he won the FA cup two years in a row.
Wenger’s contract expires at the end of the current season and it is believed he could step down should he fail to win a major trophy at the club this year.
