Arsene Wenger has been hoping to sign Antoine Greizmann this summer, according to the Squawka.

At the beginning of the summer transfer window, Wenger made it clear that signing a striker was one of his priorities but few days to the end of the transfer window, the French man is yet to sign a striker.

The Gunners had been linked with the likes of Jamie Vardy and Alexandre Lacazette but The Squawka now claims Wenger spent the summer trying to sign Antoine Greizmann.

Italian Journalist Emanuele Giulianelli revealed via twitter in July that Arsenal were in talks to sign Greizmann and it now appears there was truth in the Journalist’s claim.

Wenger believed that Chelsea striker Diego Costa would be returning to Atletico Madrid this summer which would in turn allow us to sign Greizmann.

The French boss was prepared to spend more than £60m on Greizmann and was hopeful of reaching an agreement with Atletico despite the striker agreeing a new five year deal in June.

Chelsea has now told Atletico that Costa won’t be sold this summer which in turn means Greizmann would be staying at the Vincente Calderon, putting an end to Arsenal’s hope of signing the striker.

This news would be shocking to Arsenal fans as it is obvious the club needed to sign a top striker and putting our hopes on other clubs wasn’t the best thing to do.

Wenger now has less than ten days to sign a striker but the French man is refusing to be rushed into the market and has hinted he could use Alexis Sanchez as a centre forward this season.
