Former Arsenal player Ray Parlour has admitted Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez could join Chelsea before the close of the on-going transfer market.Read
While speaking to Sky Sports News, the player who has 339 caps for the Gunners believes the Algerian attacking midfielder has a great chance of joining the Blues than the Gunners.
According to him, it’s a surprise to see the creative player remain at the King Power stadium up till now despite his exploits for the Foxes during their impressive journey to their unexpected Premier League glory in 2016.
The player who is back to form after some moments of unimpressive displays is believed to add more qualities to any team he eventually joins at the end of the season.
“I am surprised he’s still there. This is the Mahrez that won them the league, him and (Jamie) Vardy. Mahrez would fit into a lot of sides,” he said.
Parlour further advised the 28-year-old midfielder that he should ensure his move should be among Premier League’s top six clubs. Mahrez was among the stands at the Emirates Stadium during Wednesday’s Carabao cup between Arsenal and Chelsea which ended 2-1 in favour of the North London club.
Arsenal have been monitoring him since 2016 summer after his display for the Foxes, but they were unable to finalise the deal. They have made official contact with Claude Puel’s side, but it’s yet to be seen if Leicester are ready to sanction his sale as they are aiming to qualify for next season’s Europa League.
He was also on the radar of Liverpool after they sold Philippe Coutinho, but nothing has been heard of their interest against.
