Arsenal reportedly lead the race to sign Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka as a replacement for Tomas Rosicky who is set to leave the Emirates this summer this summer but the Gunners are keeping their options open as they are yet to submit an official offer for the 23 year old midfielder.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to the Emirates since the January transfer window and it had been reported that come this summer, the Swithzerland international will complete a move to the Emirates.
According to Transfermarketweb via the Daily Star, the midfielder is becoming more inclined to completing a move to the Emirates. This will come as a sad news to Premier League rivals Liverpool as well as Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
Liverpool have been monitoring the midfielder for quite some time with the Red’s manager even holding talks with the player’s representatives. Bayern Munich are also interested in the midfielder but the Bravarians want to convince the midfielder to stay and Borussia Monchengladbach until 2017 when they will be able to sign the player.
Arsenal are reportedly keen on strengthening the midfield and Xhaka features prominently on Wenger’s wishlist. The midfielder who had previously revealed it would be a dream come true to complete a move to the Premier League has now revealed his current club is yet to receive an official offer and he is happy to remain at the club next season should a transfer to Arsenal not materialize.
“What happens is not entirely down to me. I can only say that I am really happy here, and my contract runs through to 2020,” Xhaka said, according to Sport1. “Until today, no offer has been made.”
“To be honest, I didn’t think about it in the past weeks. And I believe you could see that on the pitch,” Xhaka said of Arsenal’s reported interest.
“Should something come up, we’d possibly sit down and decide what happens. And if nothing comes up, everything fits here at Borussia.”
